This easy fudge recipe makes smooth, creamy, delicious chocolate fudge every time. It only uses 3 ingredients and you can make it in the microwave or on the stove. Add in chopped nuts or candies – this chocolate fudge is always a favorite.Â
For 10 months of the year, I never make homemade candy. Then about 6 weeks before Christmas, I go into full candy making pandemonium. My kitchen becomes Willy Wonka’s factory and there’s about 5 million pounds of fudge going out on a daily basis.
Because seriously – whether it’s a hostess gift, office secret Santa, or sitting at home under a blanket watching Love Actually (just me????) –Â fudge is always the answer.
Let’s be honest, creamy smooth chocolate fudge is delicious anytime of year. And when you have a super easy fudge recipe – there’s really nothing holding you back.
The Best Easy Fudge Recipe
This chocolate fudge recipe is literally the easiest recipe out there. Here’s why:
- Theres only 3 ingredients, plus whatever mix-ins you’re using (ie chopped nuts, candy canes, etc)
- You don’t need a candy thermometer.
- It’s made in the microwave or on the stovetop.
- And it’s perfectly smooth and creamy every time.
Seriously, anyone can make this easy fudge recipe and end up with the perfect fudge every time. It takes so little effort and you get the most delicious, creamy chocolate fudge.
The ingredients are exactly the same whether you make the fudge in the microwave or on top of the stove – chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk & butter. So I’m going into a little more detail below for each method – or you can skip down right to the recipe too.
How to Make Fudge in the Microwave
First in a large microwave safe bowl add the chocolate chips, butter and sweetened condensed milk. Microwave for 30 seconds on medium power, then take the bowl out of the microwave and stir. Repeat the process until everything is just melted. Then pour into the prepared pan, and let the fudge set.
*It’s absolutely mandatory that your microwave is on medium power – otherwise the chocolate will bake instead of everything melting together in a smooth and creamy mixture
How to Make Fudge on a Stove Top
To make the fudge over the stove top, have the burner on very low heat and use a heavy-bottomed sauce pan. Then add the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and butter. Melt everything together over low heat while stirring gently. Then once everything is evenly melted remove from the heat, and pour the mixture into your prepared pan.
So if you’re looking for a delicious, easy fudge recipe just in time for the holidays – then this chocolate fudge is for you!

Yum! Do you like to eat this chilled or room temp? After setting in the fridge do you store in the fridge or room temp?
Fiona
You can definitely do either! If your home is pretty warm, then the fridge is best. But you definitely put it out on a table during a party, etc 🙂
NRS
Thanks! And does it matter if the butter is cold when you add (i plan to do in the microwave), or should it be room temperature?
Fiona
It’s not a huge deal, but if the butter is cold I’d cut it into small pieces first. 🙂

LOVE this recipe! So easy & great for gift giving. I made 2 batches for my co-works, and it was gone before noon!

Does this freeze well? I’d like to make a few batches ahead of the holiday..
Fiona
Definitely! I’d wrap tightly in clingwrap or aluminium foil and then place in a rubbermaid in the freezer. Then thaw in the fridge. I have 2 batches in my freezer right now 🙂

Could you make this in separate tiny paper cupcake liners? Do you think it would set up?
Fiona
In think it would be fine as far as the fudge setting. However, I think the process of spooning the fudge into the little liners might be quite tiresome/ difficult. I usually make it into an 8×8 inch pan, then cut it up into little squares, and then place them in little paper cupcake liners.

My sister in law brought a batch of this to Christmas. She used milk chocolate chips and it was heavenly. I just made a batch for my chocoholic husband’s birthday. LOVE it!

I’d like to make a whisky fudge, do you think adding some to this mix would be ok?
Molly
if you would like to add nuts or other candy to the fudge when should you add it? also can it be done with dark chocolate as well?
Fiona
After melting all the ingredients together, you’d remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the chopped nuts, or you could pour the mixture into the pan then sprinkle candy or nuts on top. You could definitely make it with dark chocolate – but the flavor will be a lot richer. I’d probably recommend using a 50/50 split of dark chocolate and semi-sweet.

I just made this recipe tonight, first time making fudge EVER that turned out well (last time I tried it never set) oh my goodness… I will never look for another recipe again, this is THE recipe I will be using from now on, no matter what the occasion. I made it tonight, so me and my family could snack on it while we wrapped gifts and watched Christmas specials – and oh what a special treat it was. Just fantastic! Five stars for sure!
I did it plain this time, but plan to add sea salt next time.
